Product Description
This is how to make the ultimate cushion for comfort and long life. First make a calico cover leaving the top to open up like a lid fixed on the top. Then wrap or layer fillings around this spring unit. The unit is made of fine 2.5 inch diameter springs, wrapped in a non woven fabric it measures 17" x 22.5" x 4 inches deep (43cm x 56cm x 10cm) or the same measurements by 3" (7.8cm) deep. Some springs can be removed to make the cushion smaller or tapered but do remember that the final cushion will be bigger overall than the spring unit because it needs to be well wrapped in at least two layers of 4 oz cotton felt. Alternatively it can be sandwiched between foam and polyester or even rubberised hair and cotton felt. If necessary more than one unit can be put together to make a larger cushion. Place your wrapped spring init your calico case. It should fit quite tightly. Slip stitch the three remaining sides of the lid and voila - the best cushion you will ever make!

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Pocketed Spring Interior used for?
- Pocketed Spring Interior is used in the suspension system of upholstered seating to provide bounce, support, and comfort. Coil springs are used in traditional upholstery; tension springs in modern suspension systems.
- What height and gauge of coil spring do I need?
- Spring height is selected based on the depth of the seat frame — typically 15-23cm (6-9 inch) springs for seat cushions. Gauge (wire thickness) determines firmness — 9 SWG is standard for seats; heavier gauges for firmer applications. The specification is in the product title.
- What is the difference between coil springs and tension springs?
- Coil (barrel) springs are used in traditional and high-end upholstery, tied in a grid pattern over webbing for deep, bouncy support. Tension (sinuous/no-sag) springs are used in modern furniture, running front-to-back in a serpentine shape for a firmer, lower-profile seat.
- How are upholstery coil springs tied?
- Traditional coil springs are tied using laid cord in a figure-8 knot pattern, connecting each spring to its neighbours and the frame. Springs are lashed in both directions (front-to-back and side-to-side) to prevent tilting.
- Why choose Upholstery Warehouse for springs and suspension?
