Frequently Asked Questions

What is Skin Wadding FR used for?

Skin Wadding FR is a fundamental base material in upholstery, used to provide the initial covering over springs and webbing before padding layers are applied. It forms the structural base for traditional and modern upholstery.

What is the difference between hessian and scrim in upholstery?

Hessian (burlap) is a coarse open-weave fabric used as the first covering layer over springs and webbing. Scrim is a lighter, more open-weave fabric used over the first stuffing layer to hold it in place before the final padding. Both are essential in traditional upholstery.

What weight of hessian do I need for upholstery?

For covering sprung seats, 12oz (340g) hessian is standard for durability. For covering webbing on lighter work, 10oz hessian is commonly used. The weight is shown in the product title where applicable.

What width is this material available in?

The specific width for this product is shown in the product title or description above. Standard hessian and scrim widths for upholstery are typically 72 inches (182cm).
