Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spring Border Wire used for?

Spring Border Wire is a traditional natural material used in chair caning, rushing, and seating restoration — techniques that have been used in furniture making for hundreds of years.

How do I prepare rush and cane for weaving?

Natural rush should be dampened before use by wrapping in a wet cloth for 30-60 minutes to restore flexibility. Cane should be briefly soaked in warm water until pliable. Work with short lengths to maintain moisture during weaving.

Is this material sustainably sourced?

We aim to supply natural materials from responsible sources. For specific sustainability certifications or sourcing queries, please contact us before ordering.

What gauge or grade of cane do I need for chair seating?

Standard chair caning uses a fine to medium gauge cane, typically No.2 to No.4 depending on the size of the cane holes. Measure the hole diameter and spacing on your chair and contact us if you are unsure which gauge to select.
